Central Heating Boiler care insurance can look after for your boiler
Keeping our homes warm from May to September is not a problem but unless you have the habit of taking cold showers and boiling the kettle after you bathe, you could be left without help or hope of recovery if your central heating boiler breaks down. The gas boiler is a part of the home which is rarely, if ever, thought of, until it stops working. And then you realise how important, not to mention expensive, it really is.
For those of you who are renting, of course you don’t have to worry about repairs and maintenance as the responsibility lies with your landlord and they probably will have landlords boiler cover. However, for homeowners it is always a good idea to make sure you have a little money saved to pay for any unforeseen malfunctions.
If your central heating boiler has been in use for more than a decade, it is recommended that you buy a new model; you will be able to reduce your fuel costs significantly, especially by going for a high-efficiency one. Your choice of a heating boiler should be determined by the capacity required (based on family needs), the space available for the heating boiler and the existing heating system. If you have a compact family and need hot water at short notice, a combi gas boiler is a better choice. Unlike a storage central heating system, a combi central heating boiler warms the water directly at the mains, thus eliminating the tank section. Hot water will be available instantaneously on demand, but if a hot tap is opened by someone else while you are enjoying your shower, you better jump out fast unless you like cold showers!.
Another type of gas boiler is the sealed system central heating system which has a hot water storage tank and is usually used for large families, as it allows several showers and hot water taps to work at the same time. This gas boiler can easily be installed within hours and doesn’t require excess space. But hot water can get exhausted fast and not replaced quickly if used frequently because of the storage tank feature of the gas boiler system.
Many older houses have an open vent gas boiler installed, and it is the bulkiest of all; two tanks in the attic and a storage cylinder in the ventilated closet. This boiler too doesn’t give hot water instantly like the sealed system though once again it allows several taps and shower to work at the same time, water pressure is also not to good here.
Finally, a back gas boiler can allow multiple outlets of hot water at the same time, without loss of pressure; but they can take up a lot of space. Back boilers are normally placed in a chimney breast, but they are not the recommended type for your house unless your home already has one. It would save you a lot of money on installation of a new heating boiler if a back heating boiler is already installed in your home when you moved in, as it is cheaper to replace an old back gas boiler rather than install a completely new heating system.
No matter what type of boiler you have, it’s maintenance costs can be high if it has problems. So it is important to get a central heating insurance so that your costs are covered even if something goes wrong with your system. Buy a good boiler maintenance policy which not only covers the labour, repair costs and also provides annual inspections with no call out charge.
