Do not leave out central heating boiler maintenance policies

Do not leave out central heating boiler maintenance policies

Today most possessions, right from pets to mobile phones, are covered by insurance policies. Despite the choice it is important to get those insurance policies first which are compulsory like the ones for motor insurance. If someone has a mortgage from a bank, the lender will require the borrower to take out buildings insurance. These types of insurance cover protect the policyholder from losses that could ruin their lives.

The next step down would be things like heating system insurance, which can be found with companies such as British Gas and Hometeam (npower). These policies are used only rarely while in reality it should be the opposite because even though their rank in terms of one’s need don’t match that of insuring the actual house, the central heating system of a home is an absolute need and fixing it can be costly. If we call someone to repair an unexpected central heating problem it will take some time for the plumber or central heating engineer to attend which is a big problem as it is difficult to live without hot water or heating particularly in the winter season. A damaged or badly maintained central heating system can leak carbon monoxide gas which can be deadly.

There are a range of plans on the market. Generally service plans start with contracts which includes safety checks and annual servicing fulfilling the householders minimum requirements. No repair work or spare parts are included. If your gas boiler is no longer under warranty and you only have a basic plan you could upgrade to cover that includes spare parts and repairs for just a little extra money. This additional money will be a worthwhile payment especially if the heating boiler is approaching its end of life. Although a customer may just want their gas boiler covered, it might be prudent to have the rest of the system (radiators, heating controls, central heating pump and so on) covered too.

Before choosing a policy, read the insurance document thoroughly especially and make sure you understand the limits and exemptions. Some insurance policies allow only limited call outs in a year and fix a maximum amount to be used on repairs during a particular time period. Do not buy a policy just because it is cheap, the insurance cover should be adequate for your needs.
