Enjoy the advantages of boiler insurance policies

Nowadays, there is almost nothing that can’t be covered by protection, from the health of dogs to safety of pda’s. Of course, some things are more important to get covered than others and, with the likes of motor insurance, you may be legally required to do so. Buildings insurance is required by the finance lender when an individual takes out a home mortgage. Policyholders are requireded by the lender to protect themselves from losses that could ruin their lives by these types of protection cover.

Moving a step down the ladder of importance we find gas central heating insurance, such as the products offered by British Gas. The central heating system policy is obviously not as important as your home insurance, but its important nonetheless as fixing it can cost you a fortune if you have an unexpected central heating boiler or heating breakdown. On top of the cost, you may have to wait some time to have a professional come to your house to fix any problems and living without hot water or central heating can be a nightmare. But the most disturbing fact about a badly maintained central heating system is the possibility of carbon monoxide leakage which can be deadly.

Several types of central heating insurance plans are available. The most basic types are generally just service plans that fulfil the minimum requirements, including annual servicing and safety checks. Spare parts and repair work are not included so you carry the risks of a breakdown. But if someone wants to take out one of these plans, barring the fact that their central heating system is still under warranty, only has to add a little amount on the monthly payment to include coverage for maintenance and spare parts within their policy. Particularly if a central heating system is getting close to the end of its working life, this extra money is well spent. At this point, customers will have to decide if they just need their central heating boiler covered, or if they also want to have the rest of the central heating system covered such as the radiators, heating controls and so on.

Watch out for small print before you choose a new policy as there may be limits or exemptions written into the plan. For example, you may be limited to a certain number of call outs every year or a cap on the cost of repairs that will be covered. Central heating insurance is like all other types in that you shouldn’t just go for the cheapest deal and always study whether it has sufficient cover.
