Save money on those energy bills
Save money on those energy bills
If we watch the television we all know that it is important to reduce gas use these days. Gas costs seem to be perpetually on the rise and it is therefore also helpful to make better use of the gas you buy. The typical UK family spends just about 50% of it’s energy costs on boiler energy use. To help you we have listed below some prompt guidance to cut your heating costs.
Only use central heating when and where you need it :
Check if there are any rooms which you have not used for a while such as a guest room, if so switch off the central heating system radiator in that room. Why heat rooms which are not going to be used, this only increases your gas expenditure. Check that you also closed the door to the room to prevent air flow and cold draughts.
Prefer the central heating in preference to using a fire :
A gas boiler is much more cost-efficient than using a fire to heat one room. The presence of the chimney means that a lot of the heat generated escapes to the outside, a gas boiler is more efficient than an electric fire.
Use insulation to stop draughts
If you allow chilly drafts to come into your home then you need to pay for more gas to heat this air. The first place to look will be your doorways and ensure that any visible gaps are blocked off. There can be gaps between the window and door frames and a wall which are easily sealed with a foam based sealer. These type of gaps happen often in aging homes as the foundations settle. If you are careful and use a candle flame you can detect where drafts are in a room.
Don’t turn up the heating, put on more clothes :
Putting on extra clothes or just being active for a while will mean that you get hotter without turning up the heating thermostat. Surprisingly, a 1° decrease in the room thermostat can result in a 10% decrease in your gas consumption.
Make greater use on your curtains to control temperature :
During the daytime if the sun is shining keep the drapes on the sunny side of the house open to heat the inside of your home. At nightime as the outside temperatures drop a lot of heat can leach out through your windows. closing the curtains provides an additional layer of insulation and will help to trim this heat loss, this approach will help to save you a lot of money over several months. Ensure you have thick or lined curtains to make them effective at stopping heat loss.
tips around the home :
Insulate the hot water tank if your boiler has one. Do not pay to heat water and then permit it cool down throughout the daylight.
Positioning aluminium foil behind radiators could save a large sum each year.
