Shrink your energy costs with a combi

Gas costs are rising around the globe and it appears that energy costs cost more every year. One major consumer of gas in the home is the gas boiler. You could save up to one third on your current gas heating bills by putting in a condensing gas combi boiler.

Functioning in the background your present-day heating boiler will be heating your home and offering hot water for washing cutlery and clothing in addition to powering your shower. After 15 years your gas fired boiler will have run its useful lifetime and start to become ineffective. If your boiler is nearing the end of its life it could be very wasteful in comparison to fresher models. Many old boilers are ranked as a G on the SEDBUK scale, where A is the most economical at 95-98% and G the least efficient boiler at 20-30%.

As your existing gas boiler reaches the end of its life there is an increased likelihood that you will save on your gas bills if you replace it. This can cut your fuel costs down considerably. A gas combi boiler is the most widely known type of boiler, and is good for small homes with few people, or people who don’t want to wait for their hot water. As a gas combination boiler heats the water on need it does not need a storage cylinder in the airing cupboard. The slight drawback with immediate hot water is that there is a limited throughput meaning that large households may not be able to run multiple baths or showers at the same time.

Standard boiler types heat hot water and store it in the hot water cylinder to be available when required. Even though there hot water cylinder may be lagged it will lose warmth leading to waste in the heating system. A disadvantage of using any hot water storage tank is that it will require space in your house although it does mean that you can access to larger amounts of hot water whenever required.

60 percent heating efficiencies are available to you by shifting to a combi boiler which will heat water on need and not require the inefficient hot water storage tank. A combi condensing boiler is even better where water is heated on need and the hot exhaust gases normally vented to the air is used to heat a secondary coil. Using the reclaimed heat to create hot water leads to additional gas savings.
